Our Home Flying site is Therfield Heath on the West side of Royston in Hertfordshire.

We actually use the Royston Golf Club Driving range, this is an area of approx 2-3 acres set on the side of a "slight" hill.

The site is best accessed by coming into Royston from the roundabout on the West side (Baldock side) by the Little Chef restaurant along the single carriage road. After approx 1/4mile you enter a 40MPH zone, shortly after this turn right into the entrance of the Royston Heath Sports and Social club, Follow the car park as far forward and right as possible up a slope until the tree trunk posts stop you going any further. Once you have parked up, walk a few hundred meters up the hill toward a seat at the top where you will pass a sign saying Driving Range, this is the Royston Power Kiters flying site.

Please be aware that the golfers do have right of way over us as this is actually their site and they maintain it.

Please also make sure that you do not cause any damage to the surrounding area as this is SSSI land (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and is the home to many endangered species of Flora and Fauna.

And most importantly make sure that you take ALL of your Litter home with you.!

Note: most of the car park is an unmade gravel surface which can become very rutted and may cause damage to your car. If you are at all worried about your car then please park by the Royston Heath Sports Centre and walk up the slope

Best Wind Directions

The best winds for Traction activities are Northerly as they are fairly "clean" and allow you to Buggy and Board across the slope, Southerly winds also allow this direction of travel but are usually slightly more bumpy as they are coming over the hills. Westerly winds are next best as long as they are fairly strong as you need a good wind to get you back up the slope. Easterly winds are also OK as long as you stay away from the row of trees on the East side of the slope as these make the wind very bumpy.

What are we doing now ?
