Well this year
was slightly different... the two main differences were that :-
Firstly, Flexifoil
didn't have a hand in the organisation of this years event as Mike Shaw
had left the company earlier this year and so the goodwill that Flexi
gave was not available this time around.
Secondly, it RAINED
AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND
RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED
AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND
RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED
AND RAINED AND RAINED AND RAINED.....
Actually it didn't
rain for the whole event, Friday evening was dry and gave us a great
opportunity to get all the tents pitched and arranged into our usual
little camp on the "island" in the Perimeter track. Saturday was another
dry day when just about everybody got to fly a kite, the (now
obligatory) film show was bought forward to Saturday night as the
weather forecast for Sunday evening didn't look good. Unfortunately this
year there was no prize for the best film, but most people seem to think
that Uncles "Top
Kite Gear" film would have won.. During the film festival
there was a little drizzle but nothing that halted the proceedings,
unfortunately during that night the weather turned worse and we all
awoke to a very wet and miserable campsite. During Sunday the rain did
let off a couple of times and some of the guys flying water-relaunchable
kites and some who just didn't mind getting their kites soaking wet went
out and had some fun. Most of the fun though on the Sunday took place in
the Beer tent with powerball competitions and Sumo suit wrestling as
well as the usual Drinking and Jenga. We all stayed for the last night
in the beer tent as there was a Karaoke planned but this kept being
interrupted by people running into the bar asking for assistance as
their or somebody else's tent had just been blown away by the increasing
winds. Many people were left with nowhere to sleep that night but as is
the camaraderie at this event, everyone was found a new place to brave
the weather until the morning. Luckily the only casualty we suffered was
the damage to the marquee when one of the spars collapsed. In the
morning we all set about packing the campsite away and said our goodbyes
and left just before lunchtime.
As the Saturday was
the only decent day for filming anything there wasn't that many pictures
or film taken....but Uncle has still managed to put together a small
film >>HERE<<
